BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
Colonial Shuttle

This is a build up of a very nice, high quality, hollow cast resin model kit made by Federation Models. Assembly and painting is straight forward.

Below is my review of this Kit.

Getting Started

As with all Federation Models, the model comes very nicely packaged in a sturdy box. As this was an early build up, I have not yet seen the instructions. The kit comes with 19 parts including the body. Overall, this is a VERY CLEAN resin kit. There was little to no flash on the body parts. The only parts that required some cleanup were the little landing gear, and some minor sanding of the two engine pieces. Though this model is not quite accurate in shape to the original model, for it's size, the level of detail is very nice. After doing the little bit of cleanup, I washed it in warm soapy water, and scrubbed down all the small parts.

Painting

I primed the entire model and parts first. Next I shot a base coat of a custom mix of white, camo gray and some light gray. After that, I painted the windows flat black, then masked them off for later. I then shot another coat of base around the masked windows to get the whole model to it's base color. I then masked off the raised panel for the red stripe, and the few panels that would get a slightly darker grey. I then painted those panels. After that, I removed the masking from the windows and shot the entire model with Future floor wax.

Decals
The decals are provided by JT Graphics. There are only 3, but the quality is superb. Once the Future was dry (about 2 days), I then put on the decals. Cut them out with a sharp blade, and just dip for 5 seconds in water. They set down real nice, and look very good. I like to use Micro-Set to prepare the surface first, then a little Micro-Sol on top to let them snug down. After the decals are dry, I masked off the windows again, and shot the entire model with a couple sprays of dullcoat.
Conclusions
This was a very nice, quick build model. It would be a nice addition to any Battlestar Galactica collection. With the very little amount of work to prepare this model, it is a nice and simple kit for the novice or expert.
