End of this update.

UPDATE: Feb 9, 2009 - This is my scratchbuilt recreation of the filming miniature "LIVERY SHIP" (AKA "Mineral Ship") from the original Battlestar Galactica TV Series. I began this project in August 2008, and probably put about 150 hours into this model. The model is about 45" long, and I used about 95% of the same model kit parts used on the original miniature. (Did you see the AMT Galileo Shuttlecraft body on the Engine Section?) I had a lot of used kits after the Galactica and Colonial Movers, so I only had to buy several Tamiya ship kits and a few others to get the majority of the right parts.

BASIC CONSTRUCTION- There were no blueprints or plans for this. I simply went off reference pictures of the original model. The 'saucers' are made from clear acrylic. I designed all the panel lines and had them laser etched. The engine section is built out of styrene, the rods connecting the body are brass, with the main rod being a steel one. I also had the cylinders that provide the base for the landing pads cut and turned out of acrylic. I drill pressed into them for the rods to go through. The landing pads are hand cut from acrylic.

WEATHERING - Like other projects this is always the part I enjoy most. The weathering was matched as close as possible to the original (see the black and white compare picture). I mostly used chalk pastels, with a bit of a wash here and there.

THANKS - Thanks to all my friends on Resin Illuminati for your help during this project, including Ryan C., Sean C., George T., "Cripple" and Mark D. for his research help.
